According to media reports, Sonia Sahni’s family was Sikh, but after the partition, her parents converted to Christianity. Her real name was Usha Sahni, but she changed it after entering the film industry. Her family originally belonged to Pakistan; her father was from Lahore, and her mother from Peshawar. After the partition, the entire family settled in Kashmir, India.

During Sonia’s time in the industry, romantic scenes in films were often censored or symbolically portrayed using flowers. However, in her debut film, Sonia broke the norm by performing a kissing scene with I.S. Johar. This bold move gained her instant fame and earned her the title ‘The Kissing Girl’.
