Following a large-scale arson and loot in Munger the Election Commission of India on Oct 29 removed the district magistrate, Rajesh Meena, and superintendent of police, Lipi Singh. They have been put under suspension. The state government had ordered the Magadh Division Commissioner to probe killing of one person and injury to several others in police firing on Durga Puja devotees on Oct 26 night.
He has been asked to submit the report in seven days. Meanwhile, violence sparked off in the town after bandh call given by the local people. A police station was ransacked and later torched by the mob which targeted other government offices too.
According to the DIG, Munger Range, Manu Maharaj strict vigilance is being maintained and proper monitoring of the situation is being done. The situation has taken ugly turn a day after the town went for the polling which passed off peacefully. The district administration appears to be taken by surprise by the fury of the mob on Thursday.
The Congress spokesman Randeep Singh Surjewala and leader of opposition Tejashwi Prasad Yadav have questioned the silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They both sought the dismissal of the Nitish Kumar government.
