Immediately after assuming charge as the human resources development minister, Mewalal Chaudhary, has run into trouble as till sometimes back the Bharatiya Janata Party had been gunning for him and demanding his arrest.
Chaudhary was the vice chancellor of Bhagalpur Agriculture University, Sabour, when Nitish Kumar was heading the Grand Alliance government between November 20, 2015 and July 26, 2017. The then leader of opposition in Bihar Assembly, Sushil Kumar Modi, demanded his arrest on the charge that Chaudhary was responsible for the irregularities in the appointment of assistant professor-cum-junior scientists.
However, it is other thing that Nitish crossed over to the NDA and the BJP then never raised the matter.
It needs to be mentioned that an FIR was lodged against Chaudhary after the then governor, Ramnath Kovind, now President of India, had ordered an inquiry into the matter.
Mewalal Chaudhary denied all the accusations and said that no charge-sheet has been filed and the matter is still in the court.
Now it is the present leader of opposition, Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, who has sought the immediate removal of Chaudhary as he was responsible for the irregularities in the appointments of assistant professors and building construction when he was the VC.
However, the Rajya Sabha MP of the RJD, Ashfaque Karim, called on Chaudhary to congratulate him. When asked by the media-persons as to why has he come here, he replied that he has not come to meet Chaudhary but to congratulate the new education minister of Bihar. Karim is the founder chairman-cum-managing director of Katihar Medical College.
When Nitish Kumar became the chief minister for the second time on Nov 24, 2005 he on the same evening sought resignation from the newly inducted minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, when he learnt that the latter was involved in a corruption case when he was a minister in the past and that a case is pending against him. Manjhi was later again made the minister when his name was cleared of the charges.
Again on July 26, 2017 Nitish snapped ties with the RJD and Congress and a day after formed the government with the BJP after the name of the then deputy chief minister Tejashwi Prasad Yadav figured in alleged IRCTC scam. But since then nothing much has been heard about this case.
