With 131 fatalities Delhi registered the highest number of death toll due to Corona Virus on Nov 18. Thus, it crossed the record of 104 deaths on November 12.
Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal held an all-party meeting on Nov 19 to tackle the situation even as politics over the celebrations of Chhath in the public places refuses to subside.
In the last 24 hours Delhi reported 7,466 new cases and the positivity rate is 12 per cent. The increase in pollution is also being blamed for the spurt in the COVID-19 cases in Delhi, though the number of death cases across the country is declining.
Apart from Delhi and Mumbai, Indore once again shot up in the news as 31 employees of a jewellery shop were reported Corona positive on Nov 18. The shop has been sanitized and closed. It is feared that the employees fell ill because of coming into contact with Corona patients during the Diwali-eve marketing. In all Indore reported 194 new Corona cases in the last 24 hours.
On the other hand politics over celebration of Chhath continues as the four day festival entered its second day on Nov 19.
Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday asked the Centre’s permission for the closure of markets for a few days after the social distancing and other guidelines were openly flouted during Diwali and Dhanteras marketing.
But there is no move to impose total lockdown. The new measures call for reduction of people taking part in marriages from 200 to 50. However, the Delhi unit of BJP has once again come down heavily on Kejriwal government’s failure to check the corona virus. It is only taking the excuse of Chhath gathering to save its skin.
