The BJP government in Gujarat has decided to impose curfew from 9:00 PM on Friday to 6:00 AM on Monday following sharp rise in Corona Virus cases in the city after Diwali. Only medicine and milk shops will remain open.
The curfew will continue for an indefinite period between 9:00 PM at night to 6:00 AM in the morning.
The decision in this regard was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by chief minister Vijay Rupani and also attended by deputy chief minister Nitin Patel and other officials of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation.
The strict measures taken by the BJP government is in total contrast to the party’s stand in Delhi and Mumbai where it is not in power.
Maharashtra and Delhi had recorded 154 and 98 deaths respectively in the last 24 hours, which is much higher than Ahmedabad. Delhi had recorded 7,546 new cases in the same period.
In the national capital the BJP has repeatedly criticized the Arvind Kejriwal government’s move to close markets on the plea that the social distancing norms are being violated. The main opposition party even accused the state government of causing obstacles in observing Chhath in the open places.
In the last 24 hours 45,882 new COVID-19 cases have been reported in the country and 584 people have lost their lives.
Meanwhile, Chhath is being observed with full dedication and devotion in Bihar, where too the state administration has imposed several restrictions on celebrating the four day festival in open places. It would end on Saturday morning.
