A day after the withdrawal of support to Manohar Lal Khattar government by an Independent MLA, the father of Haryana deputy chief minister Dushyant Chautala on Tuesday asked the Centre to look into the demands of the agitating farmers of the country. He made the demand on the day when talks between Union Agriculture minister Narendra Singh Tomar and farmers’ unions failed to yield any result. The next round of talks may take place on December 3.
Ajay Chautala has in a statement, asked the Narendra Modi government to fulfil all the demands of the farmers and give guarantee of the Minimum Support Price to them.
Incidentally he said so just two days after the Jannayak Janata Party of his son also called on the government to talk to the farmers. But Dushyant Chautala had then supported the three new legislations in this regard. The Khattar government survives on the support of JJP.
On Monday Sombir Sangwan, an Independent MLA from Dadri withdrew support and resigned from the post of chairman of the Haryana Livestock Development Board. He called the Khattar government anti-farmer.
On Monday itself the Rastriya Loktantrik Party, which has three MPs, also threatened to walk out of the NDA. Its leader and MP from Rajasthan Hanuman Beniwal came down heavily on the Modi government for its anti-farmers stance. Beniwal has mass support among farmers of the state. If RLP withdraws support it would be the second party after Shiromani Akali Dal to pull itself out of the NDA following the passage of the three farm bills in September last.
