After Tarun Gogoi and Ahmad Patel, the Congress party on Monday lost yet another senior leader. Two times Madhya Pradesh chief minister Motilal Vora, who completed his 93rd birthday a day earlier on Sunday, passed away in New Delhi on Monday.
According to his son Arun Vora, he had complained of breathing problem. He had a urinary infection and was under treatment in Escorts Hospital in Okhla where he was put on ventilator. A few months back he had suffered from corona virus but had recovered. Besides being the chief minister, he had also served as Governor of Uttar Pradesh and was considered as one of the most trusted lieutenants of Sonia Gandhi who had only recently lost her personal secretary Ahmad Patel.
Motilal, who started his career as a journalist, had joined the Congress party in 1968 and remained loyal to the Gandhi family throughout his life. He had served as treasurer of the party for 18 years till 2018. Congress President Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul both condoled his death and recalled his contributions to the party.
The death of Motilal Vora, Ahmad Patel and Tarun Gogoi, the last being the former CM of Assam, has come as a big blow to the party passing through a crisis. They would certainly be missed in the Assembly elections to be held in next summer in Assam, Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
