Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, and the party’s leaders in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, Adheer Ranjan Chaudhary and Ghulam Nabi Azad respectively, on Wednesday met President Ram Nath Kovind to handover the petitions signed by two crore farmers calling upon the government to scrap the three farm laws enacted in September last.
Later Rahul told media-persons that the farmers and labourers sitting on dharna would in no way withdraw their agitation till the government accepts their demands. He said that he had warned the government on the spread of corona virus and cautioning it once again.
Earlier, the Congress leaders assembled at Vijay Chowk to march to the Rashtrapati Bhawan but they were prevented from doing so. Only three leaders were allowed to meet the President.
The Congress leaders, including Priyanka Gandhi and other senior MPs were taken into preventive custody. When asked by the newsmen about this step of the government Rahul said that there is only ‘imaginary democracy’ in India. He said that anyone who speaks against the Narendra Modi government is branded as a terrorist or Khalistani.
“When farmers stand in front of him, they are branded. Labourers stand in front of him and are branded as terrorists. If one day Mohan Bhagwat stands in front of him, he will be called a terrorist,” he said.
Earlier the former Congress President submitted a memorandum signed by two crore farmers of the country to the President. This is the second time that Congress leaders have approached Rashtrapati Bhawan in support of the farmers.
