After three senior Congress leaders and several experts who have questioned the hastiness shown by the government in approving Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin and Serum Institute’s Covishield another politician Alka Lamba on Monday came out against the Union government’s move.
Raising the issue, the Congress leader from Delhi asked as to why Covaxin has been given approval by the Drug Controller General of India without any final efficacy report. Lamba tweeted that she has full faith that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would himself get vaccinated by Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin and once and for all put a full stop on all the questions being raised in the country. She said that the third trial would take place later on. “Am I not right,” she taunted.
The leader of Congress legislative party in Bihar Ajit Sharma on Monday also asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to get himself vaccinated before asking people to take it.
As reported the President-elect of the United States, Joe Biden, Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, the present US Vice President Mike Pence and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu are some of the prominent world leaders who have taken vaccine in their respective countries so that all the misgivings about it could be removed.
However, in India till now no top leader has volunteered to take the first shot. This has given Alka Lamba an opportunity to take a dig at the PM.
Two days back former UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav became the first politician to question the hastiness shown by the Centre and said that he does not trust the ‘BJP’s vaccine’. Congress leaders Shashi Tharoor, Jairam Ramesh and Anand Sharma on Sunday also cautioned the people from taking vaccine, especially of Bharat Biotech.
Opposition parties are of the view that the government has approved the vaccine even before the final trial just because it wants to distract the attention from the farmers’ movement.
Not only politicians, even many experts are now asking as to why Covaxin was approved on January 4 without disclosing the efficacy.
