Though Britain is still in the grip of new strain of corona virus and more than 1,000 people are dying everyday yet the first flight from the country with 230 passengers on board landed at New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport at 10:40 on Friday morning.
Earlier the first flight from Mumbai to Heathrow started on January 6. All the passengers coming from Britain will have to undergo RT-PCR test both in Britain as well as in India. In India each RT-PCR test costs Rs 3,400. From today onwards 30 flights will operate everyday between these two countries—15 by Air India and the rest by private airlines.
Incidentally the flights between the two countries have resumed three days after the total lockdown in the United Kingdom and the postponement of the British Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s scheduled trip to India on the eve of Republic Day, where he was to be the chief guest.
All flights between India and Britain were cancelled on Dec 23 after new strain of corona virus was first reported in south-east of England and then spread to the entire island nation. It needs to be mentioned that on January 7 Britain saw the second highest number of deaths due to Corona Virus at 1,162. On January 6 the figure was 1,041. Britain witnessed the highest number of death toll on April 21 last year when 1,224 people perished. So far about 79,000 people have died from the pandemic in the country.
