The Station Head of IndiGo Airline, Rupesh Kumar Singh, was on Tuesday evening shot dead by two unidentified criminals only a few furlongs away from the Secretariat in Patna. The incident took place while he was returning from the Patna airport on his car. The two motor-bike borne criminals fired several rounds on him just in front of his own apartment in Punaichak Colony of Bihar capital. The guard of the apartment was reportedly not present at the time.
Senior police officers including IG Sanjay Singh have reached the spot. According to the police the criminals fired six rounds on Rupesh. He was hit by at least five of them. Rupesh Singh originally hailed from Chapra district. After the incident he was rushed to a top private hospital of the capital where he was declared dead. The killing of the officer so near to Raj Bhawan and the official bungalow of the Bihar chief minister, Nitish Kumar, sent shock waves across the state capital as it once again exposed the failure of the Patna Police.
The killing came after a major shake-up in the administration on the New Year’s Day. The chief minister himself has presided over half a dozen high-level meetings on the law and order situation ever since he took oath for the seventh time on November 16.
Only on December 9 last year gold worth 10 crore was looted from a jewelry shop in Darbhanga in broad day-light. The police is yet to solve that case.
