Two days after the arrest of the secretary of West Bengal unit of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha Pamela Goswami on the alleged cocaine trafficking case a three-member team of the Central Bureau of Investigation officials along with the investigating officer, on Sunday went to the house of Trinamool Congress MP, Abhishek Banerjee, to quiz his wife Rujira Narula Banerjee, in the coal smuggling and money laundry case. This is the first time that the premier investigating agency has reached the house of Abhishek, who is the MP from Diamond Harbour. He is the nephew of the state chief minister Mamata Banerjee.
Commenting on the serving of the CBI notice to his wife Abhishek said that neither he, nor his party, is going to cowed down by this action of the Centre. The TMC has termed this as a witch hunt.
Incidentally, this development took place just a day ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to West Bengal on February 22, the third since January 23. Not only that a Kolkata court on Friday summoned Union home minister Amit Shah to appear in a defamation case on Monday. The case has been filed by Abhishek Banerjee.
According to India Today, quoting CBI sources, Rujira’s name came up during the investigation of the kingpin, Anup Manjhi, involved in the coal scam case.
It needs to be mentioned that the CBI on November 28 last carried out raids at 45 places in West Bengal, Bihar and Jharkhand in the coal smuggling case.
