A case has been lodged against the former Union minister and DMK leader A Raja over the alleged derogatory remarks made by him against Tamil Nadu chief minister, E Palaniswami. The ruling AIADMK on Sunday (March 28) appealed to the Election Commission to ban Raja from campaigning.
Palaniswami became emotional after Raja cast aspersion on his parents and his birth. Raja also said that Palaniswami was “worth less than Stalin’s slipper”.
The DMK MP also said that, in contrast, Stalin was born in the proper way, nine months after a ceremonial marriage performed with rituals.
A large number of AIADMK supporters, especially in Salem, took to the streets demanding apology from Raja. They burnt his effigies and raised slogans against him.
DMK leader M K Stalin also asked party leaders to be cautious in giving statements.
The Central Crime Branch of the Chennai Police on Sunday filed a case against A Raja for using derogatory remarks against the chief minister which could have caused riots. Raja has been booked under three sections including Section 294 of the Indian Penal Code.
Assembly election is going to take place in Tamil Nadu on April 6.
