The day-long final session of the 16th Bihar Assembly, unusual in several aspects, on Aug 3 saw an aggressive leader of opposition Tejashwi Prasad Yadav cutting in to chief minister Nitish Kumar and then launching a blistering attack on the state government for doing nothing during the double disaster of Corona Virus and floods in the state.
The chief minister and the treasury bench were somewhat surprised over the way he tore apart the government by stating that “goal goal uttar dene se kaam nahin chale ga.” (Nothing will happen by giving soft answers).
With folded hands he asked the chief minister to do something for the Corona and flood victims of Bihar. Earlier, the chief minister told the House the work done by the state government to fight the double troubles and said that finance minister Sushil Kumar Modi had already explained the amount spent by the state government.
He said that the affected people of Bihar have the first right over the funds meant for disasters be it floods or corona virus. He said that there is no scope for politics on the issue of Corona and flood relief.
The House also witnessed a heated exchange of words between health minister Mangal Pandey and Tejashwi Yadav. The latter tried to corner the minister over the number of testing done in Bihar. He wanted to know the number of people tested in Bihar and asked the minister to explain as to how many patients are in home isolation and how many in the state government hospitals.
This would expose the claim of the government of good recovery rate of COVID patients in the state, he said. Incidentally the day-long monsoon session, the last and the shortest, was held in the spacious Gyan Bhawan and not in Vidhan Sabha–thanks to Corona Virus
