The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has decided to offer unconditional support to the widow of former Union minister Ram Vilas Paswan for the Rajya Sabha election scheduled on Dec 14. The party’s announcement made on Saturday came after the BJP had decided to field former deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi, who would be filing his nomination papers on Dec 2.
SuMo will be getting the support of the Janata Dal (United) and chief minister Nitish Kumar would be present on the occasion.
The RJD’s decision followed the letter written by the Lok Janshakti Party to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding that Ram Vilas’ widow, Reena Paswan, be sent to the Rajya Sabha.
However, the BJP wasted no time in announcing the name of Sushil Modi, who if elected, would be going to the Upper House for the first time.
By rejecting the demand of LJP the BJP has made it amply clear that it does not want to keep the party in the National Democratic Alliance for too long.
RJD spokesman Shakti Singh Yadav, on the other hand, while disclosing the party’s decision, hailed Ram Vilas Paswan as a great leader of Dalits.
Meanwhile the LJP completed 20 years of its existence on Nov 28. Speaking on the occasion Chirag Paswan cautioned the BJP and said that the Assembly election could take place before 2025.
In a swift development the RLSP leader Upendra Kushwaha has extended support to chief minister Nitish Kumar on the issue of verbal duel with leader of opposition Tejashwi Yadav. He criticized the latter for his remarks in the State Assembly against the chief minister.
