Even as outgoing US President Donald Trump refuses to accept the verdict of the recently held US Presidential polls, leaders from different countries of the world continued to congratulate President-elect Joe Biden on his victory.
Biden has already spoken with six leaders from the developed world including those from Germany, France, the United Kingdom and Ireland. Biden also talked to the leaders of the Pacific littoral countries namely South Korea, Australia and Japan.
Biden said: “I’m letting them know that America is back. We’re going to be back in the game. It’s not America alone.”
It needs to be mentioned that Mr. Biden has consistently criticized Mr. Trump’s “America First” policy arguing that the President has hurt the United States by behaving in a unilateral manner.
Mr. Biden, while talking to the Western countries and their allies, emphasized on working together to confront the two global issues namely the Corona Virus pandemic and climate change. He talked to UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson about the 2021 G-7 summit slated to be held in that country. Mr. Biden also had a conversation with President Emmanuel Macron of France and Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany in a bid to stress transatlantic ties.
After his conversations with Western European allies, Mr. Biden also held talks with Mr. Moon Jae-in of South Korea, Prime Minister Scott Morrison of Australia and Mr. Yoshihide Suga of Japan. The calls with three of the US’ Pacific allies also has a huge significance as the superpower aims to contain the strategic and commercial influence of China in the region and elsewhere.
Anyway although Mr. Trump continues to make false charges of voter fraud and rigging, one thing is clear. Almost all the world leaders have by now acknowledged that Mr. Biden will take office of the President of the United States in next January.
