While Norway reported 29 deaths after vaccination, media reports from Israel suggest that at least 13 people suffered from facial paralysis due to the same reason.
According to reports, the number of those suffering from paralysis may be higher. Though the country’s health ministry is of the view that the second shot can be given once the facial paralysis is cured, the experts are somewhat apprehensive about giving the second dose to the affected people.
Israel started its vaccination drive on Dec 20 with the Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu among the first to get the jab. So far 72% of those aged 60 and above have been inoculated.
The news from Israel followed the report of 29 deaths in Norway in the last few days. All those who lost their lives were above 75 and took the Pfizer vaccine. Norway launched its vaccination drive at the end of December. A large number of people, especially the elderly, complained of side-effects after taking the shot.
In the United Kingdom too, four volunteers had suffered from Bell’s Palsy after taking Pfizer vaccine in the trial run last month. Bell’s Palsy is a condition that causes one-half of the face to droop. After this complaint medical authorities in England warned people with history of allergies not to take the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccines.
So far 3.5 million people have been vaccinated in the United Kingdom which reported 1,295 deaths due to Corona Virus on January 16.
