Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath was on Wednesday (April 14) tested corona positive. He is getting treated in isolation at his official residence in Lucknow.
According to reports Yogi, who got the first shot of the vaccine on April 5, came in contact with several BJP leaders and bureaucrats, including an additional chief secretary rank officer.
Besides, in a function on the occasion of the establishment of the Bharatiya Janata Party on April 6, he rubbed shoulders with several leaders who were later tested positive. This included the UP in-charge of the party, Sunil Bansal.
Notwithstanding the reminder from the Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi that he should go in isolation because he had come in contact with those who have been tested positive, Yogi continued to campaign in West Bengal.
However, he got tested only on Tuesday after he showed initial signs of the disease.
As he has been tested corona positive, Yogi may not be able to campaign for the next four phases of poll in West Bengal. He had campaigned in all the three other states and Union Territories which went to poll on April 6.
Meanwhile, the number of cases of corona virus in Uttar Pradesh is rising sharply as a large number of devotees are returning home from Haridwar in neighbouring Uttarakhand after taking holy dip in Ganga on the occasion of three-month long Maha Kumbh.
On April 14 too, lakhs of people took bath in Ganga in Haridwar. Similar congregation is expected on April 27.
Health authorities are concerned as pilgrims are hardly following any Standard Operating Procedure while performing the rituals. Haridwar itself has seen many times increase in number of cases of corona virus. What is feared most is that many of these pilgrims may carry the virus to the rest of India.
Reports just in said that former UP chief minister Akhilesh Prasad Singh has also been confirmed corona positive. He was also in Haridwar recently.
