Even as the Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar on August 4 recommended a CBI investigation into actor Sushant Singh Rajput suicide case, senior advocate of Patna High Court Deenu Kumar called the whole exercise of Bihar Police as unconstitutional and illegal.
The lawyer said that since the crime took place in Maharashtra and within the jurisdiction of Mumbai Police how can the police of another state go and say that it wanted to investigate the matter and arrest somebody? Deenu Kumar was quoted by regional Hindi channel, News18 Bihar/Jharkhand: “since the Bihar Police has no jurisdiction to function in Maharashtra there is no scope left for the Bihar government to recommend the CBI probe”.
Earlier, Bihar chief minister while recommending a CBI probe into the matter expressed dismay over the way the Mumbai Police treated the Patna SP Vinay Tiwary, who went to investigate the Sushant case.
Tiwary was quarantined by Mumbai Police after his arrival in Maharashtra capital. On the other hand the Janata Dal United on August 4 reiterated the position held by its partner BJP and made it amply clear that Sushant did not commit suicide but was murdered.
The director general of Bihar Police Gupteshwar Pandey, who has been quite vocal on the issue, flayed the Mumbai Police’s conduct towards Vinay Tiwary.
However, some police officials, of Bihar while on condition of anonymity concede that Bihar Police have absolutely no jurisdiction to probe the matter. But they are all keeping tight lipped as the ruling NDA has made the matter political.
