Metro Man E Sreedharan will most likely be the chief ministerial face of the Bharatiya Janata Party in the coming Assembly election in Kerala.
This announcement was made through a tweet by Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan on Thursday evening.
Earlier in the day, the Kerala unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party recommended the name of famous retired technocrat, E Sreedharan, as the chief ministerial face of the party for the coming Assembly election. The central leadership will now take a final decision in this regard. However, after Union Minister Muraleedharan’s tweet, it is certain that he is most likely to be the CM face.
The state unit’s decision was conveyed to the media by its president, K Surendran.
Sreedharan had joined the BJP only last month and ever since then there was speculation that he might be put up as the party’s CM face.
Though he is called as the architect of the Delhi Metro, his contributions to the Konkan Railway, that is laying down of the track on the difficult terrain of the Western Ghat cannot be overlooked.
Sreedharan is 89, that is 14 years older than the present unwritten age limit of 75 years adopted by the BJP for anyone contesting election.
As he was not keen to become governor or accept any such post, and wanted to serve the people, he took the decision of joining the BJP at such a late age.
Independent analysts are of the view that the BJP which has a very limited following in Kerala, wants to field a prominent figure with the view to expanding its base.
