The Kolkata Police on Friday claimed to have recovered 100 gram of cocaine from the car of Pamela Goswami (23), the secretary of West Bengal unit of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, the youth wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party. The contraband has been recovered from Pamela’s purse and car in posh New Alipore area of Kolkata while she was parking her vehicle.
According to NDTV another person in the vehicle, Prabir Kumar Dey (38), said to be a worker of the Morcha, was also arrested.
Pamela’s security guard Somnath Chatterjee (26) has also been arrested.
The police carried out the search of the car after getting information about the cocaine in the vehicle. The police said that they have been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 and they would be produced before a court on Saturday.
The BJP has rejected the allegation and accused the police of framing Pamela in a false case.
The alleged recovery of cocaine has sparked off another verbal duel between the ruling Trinamool Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party with the former accusing the leaders and workers of the saffron party of indulging in all sorts of illegal activities—from child trafficking to drug smuggling. The arrest of Pamela came at the height of fierce political battle between the two parties and between the visit to the state by Union home minister Amit Shah on February 18 and Prime Minister Modi on February 22.
