On the day (March 3) the Bharat Biotech announced 81 per cent interim efficacy of Covaxin a final year student of Patna-based Nalanda Medical College and Hospital died four weeks after taking the first shot of the corona virus vaccine.
Suvendhu Shekhar, who was in his mid-20s, was suffering from corona virus. He was from Begusarai district of north Bihar.
The authorities of the government-run NMCH have immediately carried out RT-PCR test of the students and other staff of this health-hub. Reports said that at least 20 of them are suffering from COVID-19.
One of his friends was quoted by the NDTV as saying that Suvendhu took the first jab along with him on February 5. He started showing symptoms of corona on February 21 and took some medicine. He was, however, confirmed corona positive on February 24.
Bihar’s health minister Mangal Pandey expressed shock over Suvendhu’s death.
He said all care is being taken in this regard and added that there is no need to be panicky as there are only 368 active cases of corona in Bihar with recovery rate of 99.27 per cent.
In another incident a 45 year old man Sukhdev Kirdat died 15-20 minutes after taking the second shot of corona vaccine in Thane district of Maharashtra on Wednesday.
