Former Attorney General of India and renowned jurist, Soli Jehangir Sorabjee, and an anchor of Aaj Tak, Rohit Sardana passed away on Friday (April 30) at the age of 91 and 41 respectively.
According to Bar and Bench, Sorabjee had contracted the novel coronavirus and was undergoing treatment at a Delhi hospital.
Sorabjee began his legal practice in 1953 in Bombay High Court. In 1971, he was designated senior counsel of the Supreme Court. He became the attorney general of India first time in 1989-90 and then from 1998-2004.
Sorabjee was also appointed a UN Special Rapporteur for Nigeria in 1997. He was considered as the foremost constitutional expert of the country.
Only last week a sitting Supreme Court judge, Mohan M Shantanagoudar, also died in similar circumstances.
On the other hand, Sardana, who was also suffering from COVID-19, died of heart attack. Born at Kurukshetra in Haryana, he was associated with Aaj Tak. He has left behind his wife, two daughters and his parents. Reports said that he was recovering from corona virus but died due to a massive cardiac arrest on Friday. His body is being taken to his hometown Kurukshetra for the last rites. Various journalists, politicians and other public opinion makers condoled his death.
Meanwhile, renowned Tamil actor K V Anand also passed away on Friday. Anand, 54, suffered from a cardiac arrest in Chennai.
The death of the three came after India recorded over 3.86 lakh cases of corona virus and 3,498 deaths in the last 24 hours. The death toll has slightly fallen from the previous day toll of 3,645.
However, the reported case of COVID-19 has increased by 17,000 as it was 3.79 lakh on the previous day. This is the highest single day figure till now.
