The Indian men’s hockey team won the bronze medal by beating Germany in the ongoing Tokyo Olympics on Thursday. In a nail-biting encounter Indian team showcased the highest level of resolve after getting behind 1-3 to launch a comeback to accomplish the 5-4 feat. This has ended 41 years of drought in Hockey as the Indian Hockey team last won the gold medal in the 1980’s Olympics.
The team effort in the game was similar to its campaign in the whole Tokyo Olympics as initially Men in Blue had to suffer 1-7 from Australia. The team bounced back and won four consecutive matches to reach the semifinal.
Goalkeeper P Shrijesh emerged as champion as he made four crucial saves including the penalty corner in the last minute. Samranjeet Singh scored two goals in 17th and 34th minutes, while Hardik Singh (27th), Harmanpreet Singh (29th ) and Rupinder Pal Singh (31st) were other scorers from Indian side.
From the German side Timur Oruz (2nd), Niklas Wellen (24th), Benedikt Furk (25th) and Lukas Windfeder(48th) scored the goals.
