A man who was acting erratically in an airport terminal allegedly kicked an officer in the face and chest after being taken into custody for his own safety.

Police were called to Canberra Airport about 2pm on Tuesday, June 17, following reports of a man "acting erratically" in the terminal, officers said.
Officers spoke to a 25-year-old man and determined he was intoxicated. When no care could be arranged for the man, police said he was being taken into custody for his own protection.
The man then became violent and aggressive while at the ACT Watch House, allegedly kicking an officer in the face and chest.

He was charged with assaulting a frontline community service provider and damaging property.
He was due to face the ACT Magistrates Court on Wednesday, June 18.
