A Pakistani national living in Canada has been extradited to the United States to face terrorism charges for allegedly plotting a mass shooting at a Jewish center in Brooklyn, the FBI said on Tuesday.

The accused, Muhammad Shahzeb Khan, 20, is believed to have planned the attack in support of the Islamic State (IS), intending to carry it out on the anniversary of the October 7, 2023, Hamas assault on Israel. He was taken into custody in Canada in September.

As per the criminal complaint, Khan intended to travel to New York and launch a mass shooting at a Jewish center in Brooklyn, pledging support to the Islamic State (IS).

FBI chief Kash Patel confirmed Khan’s arrival in the US, stating, “He has now arrived in the US and will face American justice." According to Patel, the terror plot was uncovered through coordinated efforts between US and Canadian authorities. Khan was arrested in Canada on September 4, 2024.

“Thankfully, the great work of FBI teams and our partners exposed those plans and shut them down," Patel added. He emphasized that the case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing global threat of terrorism and the alarming rise in threats against Jewish communities.

“Your FBI will continue to be on guard and work around the clock to counter them," he said.

According to the Justice Department, Khan allegedly disclosed his plan during conversations with individuals he believed were co-conspirators, who were in fact undercover law enforcement officers.
